We all know the acronym KISS means Keep It Simple Stupid and if you keep that in mind, you will find that organizing your home really can be simple if you break it down into little pieces. Ive talked about reducing clutter before, and I think one can never repeat this too often. Perhaps Im talking to myself, or my life partner Alex here, but organization is something we all need. If your house has become too full of too much stuff, its time to take stock of it and begin the process.

I Hear America Singing in San Carlos This Weekend!

This weekend, Foster City Community Chorus and Heart & Soul present ˜I Hear America Singing an afternoon of music from North American composers. Come and hear us as we sing some great songs and lots of jazz. This is the 16th season of song and music for the choruses.

Listening to music is a great way to spend an afternoon and the concert is taking place at the Trinity Presbyterian Church in San Carlos. This church is easy to find sitting at the corner of Brittan and Alameda De Las Pulgas. Theres plenty of free parking,too.

The frosting on the cake will be listening to our Musical Director and Conductor Paul Hurst play Rhapsody in Blue, by George Gershwin, on the grand piano. Mr. Hurst last performed this in Italy in January. He is a world-class Harpist and Pianist. This is not to be missed and worth the admission price alone! He will also perform some ragtime on the harp and I know you havent heard that before.

Alex and I like to bill ourselves ˜the Singing Realtors, and have great fun learning the music and performing for the public. If you like jazz youll love the vocals and the amazing jazz musicians backing up Heart & Soul, a chorale of 17 singers. Alex and I perform in the chorus and I also sing with Heart & Soul.

Tickets are available at the door for $15. The concert starts at 3 PM both on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Why dont you take a couple of hours off to come and listen and relax. You wont regret it.

In March of this year, over 200 San Mateo County residents met at Canada College to talk about the high cost of housing in our county. They were selected by random telephone calls. This month is your chance to sound off and voice your thoughts, concerns and comments about this issue if you live in San Mateo County. And, someone will be listening!

Elected officials throughout San Mateo County will be listening to your comments and and you can make them without leaving the comforts of your home, right in front of your computer. All youll have to do is log on to a special web site and sound off.

Do You Live in the 94404 Zip? It's Time to Talk Insurance. Flood Insurance.

If you live in the 94404 zip code, FEMA may change your insurance coverage. Why? They are preparing new flood maps and because Foster City shares the zip code with a small part of San Mateo, Foster City residents may soon be required to carry flood insurance. The shaded area on the current FEMA flood map shows the areas of San Mateo that are within the flood zone. Any new additions to the map will run south of highway 92 and both east and west of 101.

Heres the deal. If you go and buy flood insurance now, before FEMA makes the designation, the insurance is relatively cheap. A Preferred policy for a single family home in Foster City costs about $350 per year. This is for $250,000 of coverage for your house and $100,000 for contents. But only if you do it before FEMA pulls the trigger and prints the map.

Yesterday I was asked when I was going to report on Foster City. I’m pleased to give you a picture of what’s going on now. There aren’t a lot of homes for sale in Foster City right now with only 16 single family homes are on the market this week. Altos Research’s data was for last week, with 19 homes for sale. Housing prices have jumped since January of 2008, and this is simple economics here with supply and demand. Foster City really does sit in the middle of the Peninsula making it easy to commute north to the City, south to the Valley or into the east bay. It was the first planned community in California.
