If You Hurry You Can See the Dickens House Early!

Every year the parents of St. Matthews Episcopal Day School in San Mateo run Dickens House.  It is generally held in a Hillsborough mansion that a group of designers have redone and then the parents fill the house with unusual gifts and Christmas goodies for the public to buy.  It's always a great hit with the locals.  Tickets always sell out and the lines are long.  This year, they are offering us a chance to see the house before it's decorated for Christmas and filled with all of those holiday gifts.  But you have to hurry!

interior_design It's happening right now.  Open between 9:30 and 2PM and on Sunday from 11AM through 3PM, you can see this mansion today through September 23rd.   The house is located at 108 Stonehedge Road in Hillsborough.  Top interior decorators from the Peninsula have banded together decorating individual rooms and the exterior.  The price is $40 per ticket and proceeds go to the school, and best of all, you can use it for the Holiday Boutique Sale, too.  This will be your only chance to see this magnificent estate without all of the holiday trimmings and gifts when it officially opens next month.

This is the inauguration of the First Dickens Design tour. Stonehedge Road is close to downtown San Mateo, and easy to find.  Take Third Avenue and keep going across El Camino Real.  When it stops at Crystal Springs Road, it becomes Stonehenge Road on the other side of the street as it enters Hillsborough.  We hope it is a great success for St. Matthews Day School and something that they repeat annually.  The Dickens House has been run for almost 20 years and a great local tradition to kick off the annual holiday season.

Don't miss this opportunity!
